Trainees
Bär & Karrer recruits, trains, and mentors the next generation of leading lawyers. We offer the most talented university graduates who have the academic abilities, commercial awareness, enthusiasm and initiative that are necessary to master the challenges of our work the opportunity to launch their professional career with us. We regularly employ more than 15 trainees ("Substituten"/"avocats stagiaires") as they qualify to take the bar exam.
Your Exposure to Business Law
During their traineeship, our trainees are assigned to one of our teams under the supervision of a partner. They work mainly with that partner and the associates of that team. Our trainees' work covers most aspects of business law, generally with an international focus. Our trainees benefit from the know-how and experience of all our lawyers, many of whom are recognized experts in their field.
Training and Education Opportunities
Our trainees are offered numerous professional development and training opportunities. In particular, they meet regularly to discuss and review issues for the bar exam under the lead of a partner (trainee lunches). They also attend our practice group meetings and seminars. Furthermore, trainees participate in our weekly office meetings, where an associate holds a presentation on a legal topic of general interest.
Timing and Duration of Traineeship
The timing and duration of each traineeship is coordinated with the mandatory time of practice required for admission to the local bar exam. Many of our former trainees return to our firm as associates once they pass their bar exam.
Your Application
If you have an outstanding law degree, are motivated to work on challenging assignments, can work both independently and in a team, we would be happy to discuss with you the traineeship opportunities that exist at our firm. As you will work in an international environment, you should have an excellent command of one of the national Swiss languages (German, French, or Italian) and English.
If you are interested in a traineeship at Bär & Karrer, please send us your curriculum vitae and the usual documents in hardcopy, in one of the Swiss national languages or in English.
